Haworthia cooperi

How to grow Haworthia cooperi in NZ

Grow Haworthia cooperi in bright filtered light or gentle morning sun, with very free draining soil. It is well suited to a bright indoor position or a sheltered patio where harsh afternoon sun is avoided. Use a quality succulent mix or add pumice, coarse sand, or grit to improve drainage. Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry before watering again. Avoid leaving the plant in wet soil, particularly during cool weather. Haworthia cooperi grows well in small pots and containers where the soil and moisture levels can be managed easily.

Haworthia cooperi care tips

Haworthia cooperi is a low maintenance succulent that benefits from careful watering and plenty of light. Water only when the potting mix has dried, reducing watering through winter when growth slows. Feed lightly in spring and summer with a diluted fertiliser suitable for succulents. Remove old leaves as they dry and keep the rosette clear of fallen debris. Protect from hard frost and prolonged rain. Repot every few years using fresh, free draining mix, particularly if the plant becomes crowded or the potting media has compacted. Good drainage is the key to healthy roots and lasting growth.

Haworthia cooperi size, spacing, and growth rate

Haworthia cooperi generally grows about 10 cm to 15 cm tall and 10 cm to 15 cm wide, forming a compact rosette that may gradually produce offsets. Space plants around 15 cm to 20 cm apart in a shallow dish garden, or give each plant its own small pot to showcase its form. Growth is slow to moderate, with plants remaining neat and manageable for many years. This makes Haworthia cooperi an excellent choice for desks, windowsills, collections, and small display pots where reliable texture and detail are valued.

Landscaping uses for Haworthia cooperi

Haworthia cooperi is ideal for indoor plant displays, small patio pots, dish gardens, terrariums with suitable airflow, and succulent collections. Its compact rosette form provides attractive texture alongside smooth leaved succulents, pebbles, and decorative containers. Use it as a single feature in a small pot or group several plants together for a detailed, low maintenance display. It is especially useful for bright rooms, covered outdoor areas, and sheltered spaces where direct hot sun is limited. Haworthia cooperi brings architectural foliage and subtle beauty to compact garden and interior settings.
