Gasteria pillansii

Cows Tounge

This is a popular and colourful succulent, often grown as a potted plant. The fleshly and mottled leaves are dark green with cream-white flecks. Flower stems bearing pink-orange flowers are often produced in late winter. It grows as a somewhat sporadic clump to about 20 cm tall and 30 cm wide, but often reaches only half this size when grown in a container. This Gasteria prefers to grow in full sun on a well-drained site, and will tolerate light frost and extended dry periods. It is commonly grown in rock and Mediterranean gardens, maintained in a container, or used in border plantings.
