How to grow Crassula coccinea in NZ

Crassula coccinea grows best in full sun or light shade with free draining soil. Avoid heavy, waterlogged sites by improving drainage before planting. Water regularly while establishing, then only occasionally during extended dry periods. Apply a light application of succulent fertiliser during spring if required.

Crassula coccinea care tips

Allow the soil to dry between waterings and avoid overwatering, particularly during winter. Remove spent flower stems after blooming and trim lightly if needed to maintain a tidy, compact shape. Protect from severe frosts in colder parts of New Zealand.

Crassula coccinea size, spacing, and growth rate

Crassula coccinea typically grows 30 to 60 centimetres tall and wide. Space plants 30 to 50 centimetres apart to allow for healthy growth and airflow. Growth is moderate, with plants forming dense clumps over time.

Landscaping uses for Crassula coccinea

Crassula coccinea is ideal for rock gardens, succulent gardens, coastal plantings, containers, borders, and dry landscape designs. Its colourful flowers attract pollinators while the evergreen foliage provides year round structure.
