Aloe succotrina, commonly known as the Fynbos Aloe, is a handsome succulent grown for its interesting form and flowers. It grows as a multi-stemmed plant carrying spiny, green-grey leaves which often take on red tones. Stems rise above the foliage in spring to bear large and showy clusters of red-orange flowers as it grows to 1.2 m tall and 1 m wide. Aloe succotrina is commonly maintained in a container, added to succulent and rock garden plantings, used in the drier parts of the garden, included in Mediterranean themed gardens, or included in mixed planting to contrast with other foliage types.

Aloe succotrina Details

Aloe succotrina, commonly known as the Fynbos Aloe, is a handsome succulent grown for its interesting form and flowers. It grows as a multi-stemmed plant carrying spiny, green-grey leaves which often take on red tones. Stems rise above the foliage in spring to bear large and showy clusters of red-orange flowers. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and 1 m wide, and performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate extended dry periods, light frost, coastal environments once established. Aloe succotrina is commonly maintained in a container, added to succulent and rock garden plantings, used in the drier parts of the garden, included in Mediterranean themed gardens, or included in mixed planting to contrast with other foliage types.
