Aloe saponaria Details

Aloe saponaria, commonly known as the Soap Aloe or Zebra Aloe, a succulent grown for its foliage and colourful flowers. It produces a rosette of thick, sword shaped leaves, spotted with white, and with sharp teeth along the margins. When grown in full sun the plant develops pink tones but tends to be blue-green in shaded positions. In spring and intermittently during the year a short flower stem rises above the foliage to bear small, orange flowers. It typically grows to 45 cm tall and 60 cm wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. This Aloe is tolerant of mild frost and arid conditions but does not tolerate wet conditions. Aloe saponaria is well suited to planting in arid environments, rock gardens, growing in a container, Mediterranean themed gardens, or including in a mixed planting with other succulents.
