Aloe ferox

Cape Aloe

Aloe ferox, commonly known as the Cape Aloe, is a single-stemmed aloe which typically grows to 3 m tall and 1 m wide. The crown comprises a dense rosette of succulent, dull green to red-brown leaves. Each leaf can be up to 70 cm long, and carries dark brown spines. The foliage is complemented with clusters of bright orange flowers in winter which are borne off an upright stem. Aloe ferox is well suited to planting in arid environments where it is often grown as specimen. It is commonly included in Mediterranean themed gardens, used in a mixed planting with other succulents, or maintained in a container.
