Aloe castanea, commonly known as Cat Tail Tree, is a shrub or tree-like Aloe that grows to 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide with a single stem. The long and somewhat narrow leaves are blue-green, fleshy, and have sharp, brown teeth. Clusters of small, dark orange-brown flowers are borne in winter, and tend to resemble a cat’s tail. Aloe castanea is commonly added to a mixed planting, grown as specimen, included in Mediterranean themed gardens, or included anywhere a carefree and attractive plant is required.

Aloe castanea Details

Aloe castanea, commonly known as Cat Tail Tree, is a shrub or tree-like Aloe that grows to 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide with a single stem. The long and somewhat narrow leaves are blue-green, fleshy, and have sharp, brown teeth. Clusters of small, dark orange-brown flowers are borne in winter, and tend to resemble a cat’s tail. The flowers are great for attracting birds and bees. This Aloe grows best in warm, frost free areas in full sun on a well-drained soil. Aloe castanea is commonly added to a mixed planting, grown as specimen, included in Mediterranean themed gardens, or included anywhere a carefree and attractive plant is required.
