Aloe africana is an attractive Aloe that is grown for its interesting foliage. It bears succulent, grey-green leaves off an erect stem. The leaf margins carry small, reddish teeth. In winter, stems emerge and bear tubular, red and yellow flowers. It typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, growing best on a well-drained soil in full sun. It will tolerate a range of soil conditions, frost once established, coastal environments, and extended dry periods. Aloe africana is commonly used as an architectural feature, in coastal gardens, mixed plantings, grown in a container, or planted in those tougher to grow spots. This is a great plant for providing winter interest.
