Agave stricta forms large balls of skewer-like leaves to give a porcupine like appearance. It has a tight, spherical shape and will form offshoots to create a colony of rosettes with each rosette growing in a slightly different direction. Individual rosettes have hundreds of thin leaves and the plant overall will grow to about 1 m high and 1 m wide. This variety requires full sun and a well-drained soil. It is tolerant of dry conditions and coastal environments but should be protected from frost. Agave stricta is commonly used as an attractive feature in modern gardens, particularly when planted in clusters or used to contrast with other plant forms. It is also ideal for mixed plantings, rock gardens, or growing in a container.
