Agave parrasana Details

Agave parrasana, commonly known as the Cabbage Head Agave, features short and erect, powder-blue leaves. The broad and fleshy leaves are held as a rosette and have spines along their edges. Mature plants may produce a flower spike that can reach up to 4 m in length which bears clusters of yellow flowers flushed with purple-red. Ignoring the flowering stem, it typically grows to 60 cm tall and 75 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun with a well-drained soil. It is very tolerant of dry conditions, cool climates, and will tolerate moderate frost. Agave parrasana is commonly used as an attractive feature in modern gardens, particularly when planted in clusters or used to contrast with other colours and forms. It is also ideal for mixed plantings, rock gardens, growing in a container, or including in Mediterranean garden themes.
