Agave Joe Hoak is grown for its foliage and hardy nature. This Agave desmettiana variety grows as a rosette with fleshy leaves that are variegated with cream and dark green. The leaves radiate outwards from the centre of the plant and have a graceful arch. Each leaf has sharp spines along their edges. Mature plants may produce a large flower spike with golden yellow flowers. This succulent typically grows to 70 cm tall and 1.2 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained soil. It is tolerant of dry conditions, light shade, and moderate frost. Agave Joe Hoak is commonly used as an attractive feature in modern gardens, particularly when planted in clusters or used to contrast with other colours and forms. It is also ideal for mixed plantings, rock gardens, growing in a container, or including in Mediterranean garden themes.
