Agave chrysantha, commonly known as the American Century Plant, is a succulent grown for its foliage and hardy nature. It grows as a rosette with fleshy, powder blue leaves that radiate outwards from the centre of the plant. Each leaf has sharp spines along their edges. Mature plants may produce a large flower spike with golden yellow flowers. This succulent typically grows to 70 cm tall and 120 cm wide, and performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained soil. It is tolerant of dry conditions, light shade, and moderate frost. Agave chrysantha is commonly used as an attractive feature in modern gardens, particularly when planted in clusters or used to contrast with other colours and forms. It is also ideal for mixed plantings, rock gardens, growing in a container, or including in Mediterranean garden themes.
