Agave americana var Franzosinii, commonly known as the Majestic Agave, features broad and stiff, powder-blue leaves. The fleshy leaves protrude outwards with a graceful arch and have a series of spines along the edge. In summer, a stem may emerge from the centre of the plant reaching upwards of 3 m to bear a cluster of yellow flowers. Ignoring the flower stem, it typically grows to 2 m tall and 2.5 m wide. Agaves grow best in full sun with a well-drained soil considered essential and a very tolerant of dry conditions. Agave americana var Franzosinii is commonly used as an attractive feature in modern gardens, particularly when planted in clusters or used to contrast with other colours and forms. It is also ideal for mixed plantings, rock gardens, or including in Mediterranean garden themes.
