How to grow Aeonium subplanum in NZ

Aeonium subplanum grows best in full sun or partial shade with free draining soil. It performs well in sandy, rocky, or gritty soils where excess water drains away quickly. Water regularly while establishing, then only during prolonged dry periods. Avoid waterlogged conditions and apply a light succulent fertiliser in spring if desired.

Aeonium subplanum care tips

Remove any old or damaged leaves from the base of the rosettes to keep plants tidy. Water sparingly during winter and ensure excellent drainage throughout the year. Protect from severe frosts in colder regions and propagate easily from stem cuttings if additional plants are required.

Aeonium subplanum size, spacing, and growth rate

Aeonium subplanum typically grows 30 to 60 centimetres tall and spreads 40 to 60 centimetres wide. Space plants 40 to 60 centimetres apart so each specimen has room to develop naturally. Growth is moderate, producing attractive branching clumps over time.

Landscaping uses for Aeonium subplanum

Aeonium subplanum is ideal for rock gardens, succulent collections, coastal gardens, dry borders, containers, and Mediterranean style landscapes. Its sculptural form combines beautifully with agaves, aloes, echeverias, and ornamental grasses, creating attractive low maintenance plantings.
