Adenium 'Red Flabellate'

How to grow Adenium 'Red Flabellate' in NZ

Grow Adenium 'Red Flabellate' in a warm sunny position, using a very freely draining gritty mix. Use a container with drainage holes and avoid burying the swollen stem base. Introduce strong sunlight gradually and water only when the mix has dried during active growth. Keep warm and protect from frost. Reduce watering sharply during winter dormancy. A bright indoor winter position makes this plant more manageable in cooler NZ regions.

Adenium 'Red Flabellate' care tips

Care for Adenium 'Red Flabellate' by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water only when the mix has dried during active growth and drain the container thoroughly. Feed lightly in spring and summer with a suitable fertiliser. Keep the plant warm and bright, protecting it from frost and cold wet conditions. Reduce watering markedly during dormancy and check the swollen base for softness. Wear gloves when pruning because the sap is irritating.

Adenium 'Red Flabellate' size, spacing, and growth rate

Adenium 'Red Flabellate' typically reaches about 20 cm tall and 20 cm wide under suitable conditions. For individual plants, allow about 20 cm between centres to give the foliage space without excessive crowding. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Final size varies with climate, soil, container size, and maintenance. Choose a container that supports the roots without excessive unused wet mix, and leave space around the display for airflow. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust nearby planting as its natural form becomes clearer.
