Westringia longifolia

Westringia longifolia is a variety of the commonly known, Coastal Rosemary, and is a popular fast-growing, bushy shrub. It features small, dark green leaves held densely on short stems which becomes adorned with small and dainty, white flowers throughout the year as it grows to 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Westringia longifolia is commonly used for screening and shelter, planted as a backdrop for smaller plants, trimmed into a hedge, or included in coastal gardens.

Westringia longifolia is a popular choice in landscaping projects. It makes a beautiful hedge and a lush backdrop for smaller plants. This shrub is well suited to coastal and modern gardens where is brings colour and texture to a space coupled with a hardy nature. It is the gorgeous foliage, elegant flowers, and versatility of this plant that makes it a popular choice in landscaping.

How far apart to plant Westringia longifolia

Westringia longifolia can be grown as a hedge or as standalone plants. For a hedge, the spacing is generally 50 cm between the plants. If you want the hedge to fill in faster, you can shorten the spacing to 40 cm. As standalone plants that don’t merge, the minimum spacing is 2 m apart. If the goal is to achieve an informal hedge such that the natural form of the plants is realised and with some merging, the recommended spacing is 125 cm apart.
