Syringa persica, commonly known as Persian Lilac, is grown for its showy and fragrant flowers in late spring. The blooms are a soft pink colour and are great for attracting butterflies. Syringa persica Details

Syringa persica, commonly known as Persian Lilac, is grown for its showy and fragrant flowers in late spring. The blooms are a soft pink colour and are great for attracting butterflies. The foliage comprises dark green, heart-shaped leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows upright with a somewhat loose habit to about 2 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of light shade, short periods of dry, frost, and cool climates. Syringa persica is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, or grown as a flowering hedge.
