Syringa persica, commonly known as Persian Lilac, is grown for its showy and fragrant flowers in late spring. The blooms are a soft pink colour and are great for attracting butterflies. The foliage comprises dark green, heart-shaped leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows to about 2 m tall and the same wide. Syringa persica is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, or grown as a flowering hedge.

Syringa persica Details

Syringa persica, commonly known as Persian Lilac, is grown for its showy and fragrant flowers in late spring. The blooms are a soft pink colour and are great for attracting butterflies. The foliage comprises dark green, heart-shaped leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows upright with a somewhat loose habit to about 2 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of light shade, short periods of dry, frost, and cool climates. Syringa persica is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, or grown as a flowering hedge.
