Kowhai Prostrata

Kowhai prostrata is a bushy, NZ native shrub with eye-catching form. The intertwined, almost tangled branches are golden coloured and host very small leaves. The flowers in spring are orange, few in number, and almost hidden within the foliage. It typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. This is a very tough plant that will tolerate cold, dry, exposed sites, and coastal locations though good drainage is essential. Kowhai prostrata is commonly grown as an interesting hedge, added to a mixed planting, included in a native planting, or maintained in a container. The architectural form makes this plant popular with landscape designers.
