Solanum aviculare (Poroporo) Details
Commonly known as Poroporo, this NZ native is a quick growing coastal shrub with long dark green leaves and grows to about 2 m tall and the same wide. It has mauve flowers throughout the year which are followed by yellow-orange berries which attract birds. The green berries are extremely poisonous. Best performance with this plant is achieved when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered, frost free site. Poroporo is commonly used in native gardens, revegetation plantings, or included in a mixed planting.
