Commonly known as the Yeddo Hawthorne, this is a showy, evergreen shrub that originates from Japan. It features lush and glossy, dark green leaves held densely on short stems. These contrast nicely with the small and fragrant, white flowers which are borne in clusters during summer. The flowers are followed by small, dark blue-black berries. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will tolerate coastal environments, some wind, moderate frost, and short periods of dry. The Yeddo Hawthorne is a great choice for trimming into a hedge, adding to a mixed planting, including in “white” gardens, planting around outdoor living areas, or growing anywhere the aesthetics of this plant can be appreciated.
