Pyracantha Tiny Tim

Pyracantha Tiny Tim is a variety of Pyracantha grown for its decorative berries and compact nature. Clusters of dainty, white, star-like flowers are borne in spring. These are followed by masses of red berries in autumn and winter which attract birds. The dark green leaves on this evergreen shrub are small, oblong and less thorny than other Pyracantha varieties. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Pyracantha Tiny Tim is commonly trimmed into a hedge, included in a mixed planting, planted to attract birds, or used to provide winter colour.

What are the garden uses for Pyracantha Tiny Tim in NZ?

Pyracantha Tiny Tim is commonly trimmed into a hedge, used for screening, included in a mixed planting, used in cottage gardens, planted to attract birds, or grown to provide winter colour. It is well-suited to modern and cottage gardens where the vibrant colour complements these styles. Similarly, a standardised version of Pyracantha Tiny Tim makes a fabulous statement in a pot or added into a planting. A Pyrancantha standard covered in red berries against a light-coloured wall with a lime chip mulch looks amazing.

What does Pyracantha Tiny Tim need to grow well?

Pyracantha Tiny Tim grows best when positioned in full sun on a well-drained soil. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, coastal environments, and humid climates. Wind protection is important to ensure a better formed plant that will grow and flower prolifically. These plants do not do well on poorly drained sites or with continued over-watering.
