As the plant matures, the leaves shorten, become darker, and a rounded crown develops. This NZ native generally grows with a single, upright stem as it reaches 3 m tall and 2 m wide. It performs best when planted on a free draining soil in full sun or semi-shade, though it is tolerant of wind, coastal environments, extended dry periods, and frost once established.
