Pseudopanax lessonii Gold Finger is grown for its colourful foliage. This NZ native features leathery and narrow leaves which emerge bright yellow and slowly age to dark green. It typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this shrub is achieved when it is grown on a well-drained site in full sun. In partial shade it tends to grow with a more open habit. It is tolerant of wind, coastal environments, moderate drought, and frost once established. Pseudopanax lessonii Gold Finger is commonly included in a mixed planting, planted around outdoor living areas, trimmed into a hedge, or maintained in a container.
