Pseudopanax lessonii Dark Star is grown for its lush and colourful foliage. New foliage emerges bronze and ages to become dark green with a bronze margin. The broad and leathery leaves are held densely as it grows to 2 m tall and the same wide. It can be trimmed as necessary and performs best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. In partial shade it tends to grow with a more open and spreading habit. It is tolerant of wind, coastal environments, dry periods, and frost once established.
