Black Knight Pseudopanax

The Black Knight Pseudopanax is grown for its dark coloured foliage. It features broad and leathery leaves which are a rich, dark purple but become almost black during winter. The foliage is held densely on this evergreen as it grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. It can be trimmed as necessary and performs best when grown on a well-drained site in full sun. In partial shade it tends to grow with a more open and spreading habit. It is tolerant of wind, coastal environments, dry periods, and frost once established. The Black Knight Pseudopanax is commonly included in a mixed or native planting, planted around outdoor living areas, used for shelter and screening, or planted to contrast with a light-coloured wall or the like.
