Podocarpus drouynianus Details

Podocarpus drouynianus, otherwise known as the Emu Berry, Wild Plum, or Koolah, is an evergreen shrub that is favoured for its fleshy fruits and foliage. Purple seed cones have a fleshy base that is edible and quite tasty. It features mid-green, needle-like foliage that is held somewhat densely. It grows as a multi-stemmed bush to about 75 cm tall and 2.5 m wide. Best results with this shrub are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of mild drought, moderate frost, some wind, and coastal environments. Podocarpus drouynianus is commonly included in a mixed planting in a large garden, included in Mediterranean themed gardens, or planted specifically for its edible cones.
