Plagianthus divaricatus, commonly known as Marsh Ribbonwood or Makaka, is a hardy New Zealand native shrub ideal for coastal and wetland restoration. It forms a dense, twiggy thicket that can reach up to 2 metres in height and thrives in salty, wind-exposed, or periodically wet conditions. This deciduous shrub is fast-growing, tolerant of harsh environments, and excellent for erosion control. Small cream flowers appear in spring, supporting native biodiversity. It’s a valuable plant for shelter, habitat, and native landscaping.
