Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Silver Sheen’ is an attractive, NZ native shrub that features small, silver-green leaves held on brown-black stems. It grows rapidly with a tidy and dense habit to about 3 m tall and 1.5 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Trimming encourages new growth and helps keep the plant dense. Small, dark purple flowers are produced in spring amidst the foliage, which adds extra interest to this plant. If performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site, and it is tolerant of most soil types, except extreme wet. It is also hardy to coastal conditions, moderate frost, some wind, and dry periods though does benefit from protection while establishing. Pittosporum ‘Silver Sheen’ is an excellent choice for hedging, growing around pools areas, adding to a mixed planting, or including in native plantings. Space plants 50 cm apart when growing this Pittosporum as a hedge.
