Pittosporum roimata

How to grow Pittosporum roimata in NZ

Pittosporum roimata grows best in a sunny to partially shaded position with well drained soil. It adapts well to a variety of soil types and performs successfully throughout many parts of New Zealand. Water regularly during establishment to encourage strong root development, then only during prolonged dry periods. Incorporating compost into the planting area can improve soil structure and support healthy growth. Applying mulch around the base helps retain moisture, suppress weeds, and encourage successful establishment and long term plant health.

Pittosporum roimata care tips

Pittosporum roimata is a low maintenance native shrub that requires very little ongoing care once established. Water during extended dry spells, particularly while plants are becoming established. Light pruning can be undertaken to maintain shape or encourage denser growth if desired. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser to support healthy foliage development. Remove any damaged or dead branches as required. Its hardy nature and adaptability make it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking reliable year round performance.

Pittosporum roimata size, spacing, and growth rate

Pittosporum roimata typically grows to around 2 to 4 metres tall and 1.5 to 3 metres wide, forming an attractive upright shrub or small tree. Growth is moderate, allowing plants to establish steadily while remaining manageable. Space plants approximately 1.5 to 2 metres apart when creating screens or native borders. This spacing allows adequate airflow and room for natural development while creating an attractive and balanced display. Its adaptable size suits a wide range of landscape applications.
