Pieris 'Lord Wakehurst'

How to grow Pieris 'Lord Wakehurst' in NZ

Pieris 'Lord Wakehurst' grows best in a partially shaded position with moist, well drained, acidic soil. Before planting, incorporate organic matter such as compost to improve soil structure and moisture retention. Avoid areas with hot afternoon sun, particularly in warmer regions. Water regularly while the plant establishes and maintain even soil moisture during dry periods. Applying mulch around the base helps conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and create the cool root environment this plant prefers.

Pieris 'Lord Wakehurst' care tips

Pieris 'Lord Wakehurst' is relatively easy to maintain when grown in suitable conditions. Feed in spring with a fertiliser formulated for acid loving plants to encourage healthy growth and flowering. Remove spent flower clusters after blooming if desired to keep plants tidy. Pruning is generally limited to removing damaged or wayward branches. Ensure the soil does not dry out completely during summer. Consistent moisture and protection from harsh afternoon sun will help maintain attractive foliage and vigorous growth.

Pieris 'Lord Wakehurst' typically grows to around 2 to 3 metres tall and 1.5 to 2 metres wide, developing into a dense and upright shrub.
