Pieris japonica Bonfire Details

Pieris Bonfire is an attractive shrub grown for both its foliage and flowers. This compact, rounded shrub produces cream coloured, waxy flowers in spring which are borne in pendent like clusters on graceful stems. The new foliage in spring is red-bronze which matures into leathery, glossy, dark green leaves. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, growing best on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade. Leaf colouring and flowering will be reduced as the levels of shade are increased and it is frost hardy once established. Pieris Bonfire makes for a superb specimen in a small garden and is well suited to container growing, adding to mixed plantings, formal gardens, border plantings, or planting around the barbecue area.
