Physocarpus Shady Lady, commonly known as Ninebark, is a deciduous shrub that produces lush, dark purple foliage which is held on red stems and develops lovely shades of red in autumn before falling. The foliage alone makes an impressive statement but is further complemented with large and showy clusters of small, white-pink flowers in summer as it grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Physocarpus Shady Lady is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or planted to contrast with other plant colourings.

Physocarpus Shady Lady Details

Physocarpus Shady Lady, commonly known as Ninebark, is a deciduous shrub grown for its impressively coloured foliage and pretty flowers. It produces lush, dark purple foliage which is held on red stems and develops lovely shades of red in autumn before falling. The foliage alone makes an impressive statement but is further complemented with large and showy clusters of small, white-pink flowers in summer. It typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide and can easily be contained with trimming. Physocarpus Shady Lady grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade, and is tolerant of frost and cool climates. This shrub is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or planted to contrast with other plant colourings.
