Photinia fraseri is a popular hedging plant owing to its bright and colourful foliage. New growth is bright red and ages to become mid-dark green which results in a glossy plant with dual colouring through spring and summer. This quick growing evergreen can reach 5 m tall and the same wide but is commonly trimmed to sizes significantly less than this. Best results are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. This is a reasonably hardy plant that will tolerate moderate frost, dry periods, some wind, and most soil conditions, barring extreme wet and dry. Photinia fraseri is commonly grown as an attractive and dense hedge but is also well suited to being used for shelter and screening. For hedging, space plants 40-50 cm apart.
