Philadelphus 'Beauclerk'

How to grow Philadelphus 'Beauclerk' in NZ

Philadelphus 'Beauclerk' grows best in full sun or light partial shade with fertile well drained soil and good airflow. A sunny position encourages the strongest flowering display and vigorous growth. Water regularly during establishment to develop a strong root system, then only occasionally once established. Adding compost to the soil at planting time improves moisture retention and soil structure. Applying mulch around the base helps conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and support healthy root development.

Philadelphus 'Beauclerk' care tips

Philadelphus 'Beauclerk' is low maintenance and benefits from pruning immediately after flowering. Removing older stems and lightly shaping the shrub encourages vigorous new growth and improved flowering the following season. Feed with a balanced garden fertiliser during spring to support healthy foliage and abundant blooms. Water during extended dry periods, particularly while plants are establishing. Avoid heavy winter pruning because flower buds form on stems produced during the previous growing season.

Philadelphus 'Beauclerk' size, spacing, and growth rate

Philadelphus 'Beauclerk' typically grows to around 2 to 3 metres tall and spreads up to 2 metres wide with a naturally arching bushy habit. It has a moderate growth rate and develops into an attractive flowering shrub under favourable conditions. For borders, screening, or feature plantings, space plants approximately 1.5 to 2 metres apart to allow healthy airflow and full development. Occasional pruning helps maintain shape and encourages dense growth.
