Paeonia suffruticosa

Tree Peony

Commonly known as the Tree Peony, this is a deciduous shrub grown for its lush foliage and stunning, pink flowers. The large and showy, semi-double flowers are borne through summer and are followed by seed pods which open to reveal glossy, black seeds. The foliage comprises large and lush, dark green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and dry periods. The Tree Peony is commonly included in a mixed planting, planted around outdoor living areas, used in cottage gardens, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
