Osmanthus heterophyllus Purpureus is an evergreen shrub grown for its attractive foliage. New foliage emerges dark purple and develops prominent, dark green tones as it ages. The foliage is held densely on short stems. It produces clusters of small, highly-scented white flowers through summer and autumn which are followed by small, blue-black berries. This showy plant typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when grown on a well-drained site in full sun or partial shade, and will tolerate dry periods, coastal environments, and moderate frost.
