Osmanthus x burkwoodii is an evergreen shrub grown for its attractive foliage and pretty flowers. New foliage emerges a glossy, light green colour, ages to become dark green, and is held densely on short stems. It produces clusters of small, highly-scented white flowers through summer and autumn which are sometimes followed by small, blue-black berries. This showy plant typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when grown on a well-drained site in full sun or partial shade, and will tolerate dry periods, coastal environments, and moderate frost. The hardiness of this variety of Osmanthus makes it very versatile. It is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, trimmed into a hedge, planted around outdoor living areas, or used anywhere its beauty and fragrance can be enjoyed.
