To grow Olearia oleifolia successfully in New Zealand, plant it in a sunny to partly shaded spot with well-drained soil. This hardy, bushy shrub is well suited to coastal and exposed conditions, tolerating wind, salt spray, and light frosts. Water regularly during the first year to help it establish, then only during extended periods of dryness. Prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage compact growth.
