Olearia avicenniifolia, commonly known as the Mountain Ake Ake, is a spreading, NZ native shrub that has showy flowers. Masses of daisy like, white flowers appear in summer and these are great for attracting birds. The foliage comprises thick, leathery, glossy green leaves. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 5 m tall and 3 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site though it is tolerant of coastal conditions, a range of soil conditions, and periods of dry. Olearia avicenniifolia is commonly included in a mixed planting, revegetation planting, planted around larger trees, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or grown anywhere a tough plant is required.
