Commonly known as the NZ Cranberry, this is an evergreen shrub grown for its lush foliage, pretty flowers, and colourful berries. It carries small and glossy, dark green leaves held densely on short stems. The real appeal of this plant are the masses of small, white flowers borne from summer through autumn which result in red berries. The berries have a pleasant taste and are quite edible. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 1 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is positioned in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments. The NZ Cranberry is commonly trimmed into a hedge, added to a mixed planting, maintained in a container, included in a cottage garden, or added to an edible garden.
