Masses of velvet buds are borne in spring and autumn and open to reveal showy, fragrant, cream-coloured flowers which are flushed with pink. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide. Michelia Lady of the Night is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting, clipped into a hedge, added to a cottage garden, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
