Metrosideros ‘Red Carpet’ is a dwarf variety of the commonly known, Crimson Rata Vine, and is grown for its showy flowers and short stature. This coastal, NZ native shrub produces stunning displays of red flowers in spring which sit above the grey-green leaves. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and 1 m wide and grows best in full sun on a well-drained site. Metrosideros ‘Red Carpet’ is tolerant of poor soils, dry periods, frost once established, and coastal climates. This Pohutukawa is an excellent choice for coastal gardens, container growing, adding to mixed plantings, or mass planting on a bank or the like for a wonderful display.
