Metrosideros 'Mistral'

How to grow Metrosideros 'Mistral' in NZ

Metrosideros 'Mistral' grows best in full sun for maximum flowering, though it will tolerate light shade. Plant in free draining soil and choose an open position with good airflow. It performs well across most NZ regions and is particularly tolerant of coastal conditions, wind, and salt spray once established. Water regularly during the first year to establish a strong root system, then reduce watering once settled.

Metrosideros 'Mistral' care tips

Metrosideros 'Mistral' is very low maintenance once established. Water during extended dry periods, especially in the first few summers. Pruning is rarely required but can be carried out after flowering to maintain shape or size if needed. Feeding is generally unnecessary, though a light application of slow release fertiliser in spring can support healthy growth in poorer soils.

Metrosideros 'Mistral' size, spacing, and growth rate

Metrosideros 'Mistral' typically grows to around 3 to 4 metres tall and approximately 2 to 3 metres wide. It has a moderate growth rate and forms a dense, rounded canopy. Space plants about 2.5 to 3 metres apart to allow for airflow and natural form. Its compact size makes it ideal for urban gardens and tighter planting spaces.
