Melicytus obovatus Details

Commonly known as Chatham Island Mahoe, this is a small, NZ native shrub that grows up to 3 m tall and the same wide. It produces multiple stems with a gentle arch carrying small, bright green leaves. During spring it produces small, white flowers which turn into pink or blue berries. Best performance with this tree is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions, frost, cool climates, and periods of dry once established. This plant is commonly used in coastal plantings, grown in a container, included in mixed plantings, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or trimmed into a hedge.
