Blue Tongue, Native Lasiandra
Melastoma affine, commonly known as Blue Tongue or Native Lasiandra, is a fast-growing shrub native to Australia and Southeast Asia. It features striking, mauve-purple flowers that bloom throughout the warmer months and attract bees and butterflies. The mid-green, velvety leaves contrast beautifully with the blooms. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 2–3 metres tall and 1.5 metres wide. Melastoma affine is ideal for subtropical gardens, informal hedging, or adding vibrant colour to borders and native planting schemes.
