Melaleuca 'Revolution Green'

How to grow Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' in NZ

Grow Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' in full sun with free draining soil for the best growth and dense foliage. It is adaptable to heavier soils and can tolerate occasional wet conditions, provided water does not remain around the roots for long periods. Prepare the planting area with compost, plant at the same depth as the nursery container, and water deeply after planting. Keep the soil moist through the first growing season so plants establish strongly. Once established, Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' is drought tolerant, hardy, and well suited to coastal and exposed sites throughout NZ.

Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' care tips

Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' is low maintenance once established. Water regularly during the first year, particularly in dry weather, then provide extra water only during prolonged drought. Apply a balanced slow release fertiliser in spring if soil is poor or growth needs support. Light pruning after flowering, or regular trimming through the growing season, will maintain a dense compact hedge or screen. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch clear of the stem. Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' responds well to trimming and delivers dependable evergreen cover with simple care.

Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' size, spacing, and growth rate

Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' typically grows to about 4 m tall and 2 m wide, though regular trimming can maintain a lower and narrower hedge. Space plants approximately 1 m to 1.5 m apart for screening or hedging, depending on how quickly a solid result is wanted. It has a medium growth rate, developing dense foliage and a useful upright habit as it establishes. Closer spacing creates privacy sooner, while wider spacing suits individual specimens. Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' is a practical choice for adding evergreen structure without taking up excessive garden space.

Landscaping uses for Melaleuca 'Revolution Green'

Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' is ideal for hedging, screening, mixed borders, coastal gardens, pool areas, and specimen planting. The fresh green fine foliage provides a clean backdrop for flowering plants while its dense habit makes it useful for privacy and wind protection. Plant it in rows along fences and driveways for a tidy screen, or use it in groups to give structure to larger planting schemes. It also performs well near damp garden areas where drainage is adequate. Melaleuca 'Revolution Green' brings versatile evergreen texture and reliable form to many NZ landscapes.
