Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink'

How to grow Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' in NZ

Grow Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' in full sun or light shade with free draining soil. It adapts well to exposed, coastal, and dry garden sites, provided water does not remain around the roots. Prepare the soil with compost before planting, then water deeply to settle the root system. Keep plants moist during their first growing season, especially in dry weather. Once established, Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' is drought tolerant and needs little supplementary watering. Choose an open site with room for mature growth, as a sunny position encourages dense foliage and the best flowering display.

Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' care tips

Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' is low maintenance once established. Water young plants regularly through the first year, then provide extra moisture only during prolonged drought. Apply a balanced slow release fertiliser in spring if growth needs a boost, particularly in poor soil. Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a compact form and encourage dense fresh foliage, or trim more regularly when growing a hedge. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and reduce weeds, keeping it clear of the trunk. Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' will provide dependable colour and evergreen structure with basic seasonal care.

Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' size, spacing, and growth rate

Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' generally grows about 3 m to 5 m tall and 2 m to 3 m wide, though pruning can maintain a smaller size. Space plants around 1 m to 1.5 m apart for screening, shelter, or informal hedging, allowing more room for individual shrubs. Growth is fast in warm sunny conditions, particularly while plants establish. Regular light trimming encourages a dense shape and helps control height. Melaleuca armillaris 'Pink' is a practical choice for gardens needing a quick growing evergreen shrub with colourful seasonal flowers and good tolerance of challenging sites.
