Mahonia lomariifolia Details

Mahonia lomarifolia, commonly known as Chinese Holly, is an outstanding and unusual shrub. This evergreen grows upright and produces sharply toothed, dark green leaves. They are impressive in their own right but are complemented with lightly scented, yellow flowers from autumn through until spring. The flowers result in decorative, blue berries which are great for attracting birds. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 1.5 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, periods of dry, and coastal environments. Mahonia lomarifolia is commonly included in mixed plantings, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or planted so the fragrance and beauty of this plant can be enjoyed. It is a low-maintenance and rewarding plant.
