Loropetalum chinense is an evergreen shrub grown for its interesting, spider-like flowers. The fragrant, pink blooms are produced through winter, and are both unusual and appealing. The foliage on this bushy plant is oval, mid green, and provides a lovely backdrop for the flowers. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It is hardy to moderate frost and tolerant of both dry periods and coastal conditions. Loropetalum chinense is commonly used in borders, included in a mixed planting, trimmed into a hedge, grown for winter colour and fragrance, or planted around outdoor living areas.
